After an “Election Day” that spanned nearly an entire workweek as states counted unprecedented numbers of mail-in ballots, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris have been elected president and vice president of the United States, defeating incumbent President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. The election marks a historic moment, as Harris becomes the first woman ever elected vice president, as well as the first Black and South Asian person.

Victories in the swing states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, likely along with Arizona and newly-blue Georgia, delivered the White House to Biden and Harris, largely powered by the efforts and energy of Black, Latinx, Native American, and Asian American organizers and voters who worked tirelessly against suppression, disinformation, and the challenges of the pandemic.
