Prism is taking a mental health day this Friday. For many of us, the news cycle over the last 12 days has been traumatizing. As a BIPOC-led newsroom, it is our responsibility to untangle brutalities and contextualize them for our readers, and we strive to do so with sensitivity and accuracy. The news and the stories we cover directly impact our communities—communities most harmed by the oppressions that we witness in action every single day.

As an organization that cares deeply about honoring our loved ones and kin in the pursuit of justice and liberation, we also want to care for our staff as we witness current events and profound tragedy. As such, we will be prioritizing the wellness of our team and taking a mental health break today through the rest of the long weekend. We recognize the privilege that we have to do this and are grateful that we can.

We will see you again on the 31st.
